Question regarding hemorrhoids?

Hi, no jokes here, lets be adult about this subject. I was diagnosed with hemorrhoids a couple of years ago. Just a minor case. About two months ago they decided to go from minor to moderate. From the research I have done I have external hemorrhoids. I have started using preparation h. Sometimes I do not even need it if they stay calm. Soooo, my question is this, is it normal to have inflammation outside of my or rectum? Going either way from my orifice, towards my testes or up my crack towards my back side only a couple of inches it is red and inflamed. Its quite irritating. Is this a normal condition of having hemorrhoids because I could not find any info about it? Thanx, Robert
