When does the body build up face antibodies and how long do they last?

Last time (and only time) i had a cold sore was about 10 years age and it was really bad. now i think i have one again but its much more minor, just like a darker dry patch that tingles and itches a bit. Ive been trying to be cautious about touching myself in other areas without first washing hands but there have been times where i rubbed my eye etc without realizing. Would antibodies developed from the first and only hsv1 outbreak 10 years ago still protect me now?
