Can a hacked wii randomly brick?

i hacked my wii the other day and i have been using some of my hacks off the hombrew channel everything i have done is only off the sd card i havent installed any channels or themes from hombrew ...ok long story short my brother was playing on the mii channel and he turns off the wii and i come back to play it a few mins later and i turn on the wii and it just is a black screen the discs are still able to be ejected and inserted but the wii remotes wont sync... why did my wii just brick randomly i wasnt installing anything we hadnt even been on the homebrew channel at all that day...
