Can birth control cause hair to become weak and break?

I have been on birth control for over a year now. When I started, my hair was really long (just past my chest) and very healthy. I have never had a problem with weak hair before. Last June I got my hair cut, only about an inch for a trim, expecting my hair to grow like a weed per usual. However, instead of growing, it seemed to get progressively shorter as the year went on. I finally switched birth controls in January and started taking Biotin everyday as instructed by my doctor. I started to think that my hair was growing again but then recently I noticed a lot of hair in the sink when I blow dry that looks like breakage again. I know birth control causes hair LOSS in women, but I have not read anything about breakage. My hair has grown a little and it has only been 5 months. Should I wait on this or does it sound like another birth control issue?
